Training

"What's most important to me is finding a place where individuals want to work together as a true team, the culture supports learning and development on the job, and hard work is really rewarded. I see that reflected here at Pekin Insurance."

It's back to school for a lot of local kiddos this week! 📚 There often seems to be confusion among drivers as to what that big, red, octagonal sign with flashing red lights and the letters s, t, o & p really means on those big yellow school buses. 🛑 We thought we'd explain:

✔️ It means STOP! ✋ As in, hit the brakes until you come to a complete stop at least 20 feet away from the bus.

✔️ Don't accelerate to try to get past the bus before the stop arm is fully extended.

✔️ Don't slow down and think it's okay to slowly drive by a bus full of precious cargo. You'll be able to stop quickly enough if one of those little cargo runs out in front of you ... wrong!

✔️ Don't act like you didn't see the stopped bright yellow bus and flashing lights either, because that means you were distracted and that's just not cool (and it's illegal).

Then comes the real test of patience. You must remain stopped until the stop arm is fully in and the lights stop flashing. This time of waiting for little kiddos to load on/off the bus is not a time to get your phone out to check your latest notifications or apply makeup or read a book ... that's distracted driving (still not cool). 👍 If it calms your leadfoot, just remember an average school bus stop is shorter than a traffic stop! 🚦

Lastly, kids learn in school that "sharing is caring," so go ahead and share the information about cars who don't stop with your local police department.🚨They'd really appreciate that and give you an A+! 💯

*Just to cover ourselves: sometimes there are exceptions or different state laws, so research your area. Overall, be patient and when in doubt, STOP.
